Our Methodology

How We Teach Chess

Chess improvement does not come from memorizing moves. It comes from regular play, understanding why decisions succeed or fail, and learning from mistakes.

01

TRAIN

Structured Learning

Lessons follow a clear, progressive syllabus. Students learn board vision, tactical themes, opening principles, pawn structures, and practical endgames step by step.

02

PLAY

Practical Games

Students regularly play over-the-board games under tournament conditions with clocks and notation sheets to develop focus and clock management.

03

ANALYSE

Honest Review

Instead of relying blindly on computer engine numbers, coaches review games with students to understand why a move was played and where better choices existed.

04

IMPROVE

Stronger Habits

Recurring mistakes—such as rushing under time pressure or missing tactical motifs—are targeted with specific exercises to build sound, instinctive habits.

Comprehensive Syllabus

What Students Learn

A balanced curriculum covering all three phases of the game—from opening principles to endgame conversion.

Fundamentals & Board Vision

Opening Principles & Systems

Center control, rapid piece development, king safety, and understanding the ideas behind major classical openings.

Middlegame & Positional Play

Formulating plans, improving worst-placed pieces, pawn structure evaluation, open files, and candidate move selection.

Endgame Technique

King and pawn endings, fundamental rook endings, opposition, pawn promotion, and converting advantages patiently.

Practical Play & Tournament Prep

Clock awareness, notation recording, post-game analysis, psychological poise, and preparation for official events.

Practical Competition

Learning Through Tournament Play

At VV Chess Academy, we believe playing in tournaments is an essential part of chess growth. Practical competition teaches focus under pressure, time management with clocks, and the emotional discipline needed to handle both wins and losses.

We conduct regular in-house tournaments with prizes and skill-graded divisions. This gives students an encouraging, structured environment to test their skills before stepping into state and national FIDE-rated tournaments.

  • Regular in-house competitions with skill brackets
  • Practical play with official digital clocks & notation sheets
  • Guidance on preparing for external state & national events

In-House Tournaments

Conducted 1–2 times monthly at our Nagarbhavi campus. Students are grouped strictly by playing strength into separate divisions so that every match is balanced and competitive.

About VVCA

About VV Chess Academy

A dedicated chess academy founded on structured learning, practical play, and honest game analysis.

"Chess is more than learning how the pieces move.
It teaches a player to observe, calculate, make decisions, deal with uncertainty and learn from mistakes.
VV Chess Academy was created to provide a structured environment where students can develop those skills through coaching, practical play, analysis and tournament experience."

V V CHESS ACADEMY PRIVATE LIMITED (VVCA) was founded by competitive chess players Vasuki G. Krishna and Vinayak Kulkarni. Having spent decades on the competitive circuit, they recognized the need for a dedicated, structured chess academy in Bengaluru where children and aspiring players receive genuine coaching rather than passive instruction.

We operate from our own 1,200 sq. ft. dedicated campus in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. Unlike multi-activity centers where chess is offered as a casual side hobby, our academy is built exclusively for chess. Students train with tournament-standard boards and clocks, participate in regular sparring sessions, and learn to review their games thoughtfully under the direct supervision of experienced coaches.

Why VV Chess Academy

We treat chess with the respect of a serious intellectual discipline. We focus on building genuine board awareness, calculation ability, and resilience rather than encouraging rote memorization of moves.

Our Teaching Philosophy

Every lesson links concept to practice. Students study ideas on the board, test them in practical sparring, analyse the critical moments with coaches, and gradually build sound competitive habits.

The BLR64 Ecosystem

Under VVCA, our BLR64 digital platforms extend learning outside the physical classroom—giving students access to tournament discovery, opening tools, tactical exercises, and annotated games.
